Myspace Hoax - Week 2

This whole article just makes me sad. Kids these days are into a cyber world that they believe is "real". In a way it is, because actual people are the ones who make this world real, but in cases like this, it is not real. People have the power to be whoever they want when it comes to the internet. I could say my name is Lucy Shoemaker, 40 years old, and from Florida if I wanted to. Who is anyone on the internet to say I am not who I am claiming to be? They cannot see me or prove in anyway I am who I say I am. Of course my claims are in general for social networking sites, although identity theft is also in bank sites and so on.
Another thing, how can a mother make a profile on myspace and mess with a 13-year old? Her excuse is that she wanted to see what she was saying about her daughter, but really? How old are you? First of all, conflicts are going to happen between teenagers, but parents have no right to interfere with any of the so called drama. I believe that the most they can do is advise their child to what the best thing for them to do is and maybe go talk to the other parent. But to get in the middle of the two is just immature and can lead to serious trouble. This lady should be charged with harrassment. As for a law, it is hard to say what kind of law should be passed. In morals and ethics, the fake profile was wrong to make because of the intentions the people had upon making in.
